It is in walking distance from safina plaza on infantry road. Ask people about gem plaza and you will find a bright red electronics hoarding of samarkand. The restaurent is actually to give you the taste of north west frontier area. Or in samarkand you will get very good afghani or north west frontier cousin.

The best part of samarkand is its ambience. If you are going there for first time you will be literally amazed. You really feel like you have been to a Afghan cave. The interior of samarkand is totally unique. The dim lit atmosphere, rough stony floorings and walls takes you to samarkand and afganisthan the seating might not be comfortable for tall people as it has low seating chairs. The whole ambience in samarkand is designated to travel you to samarkand and afganistan as i already said. To add to that great ambience in samarkand the waiters are also dressed traditionally who look like pathans.

That day was my friend`s birthday and we 6 of us were in samarkand. The best recommended thing to do in samarkand is the prior booking of table. We had a booking two days before through hungryzone.com, so there was no problem at all. When we reached samarkand, we were welcomed by a man who was fully bearded and wearing an afghani robe. When we wre inside samarkand our eyes took sometimes to adjust in that dim light atmosphere. It took about 10 mins to be seated in our beautiful wooden chairs. They gave us hot towles to refresh ourself and they also provided us some complementry snacks to start with.

The waiter places a bottle on our table, we were thinking that was an inhouse complementary drink, but that was actually the drinks menu itself. And also they handed us something looking like newspaper from some Arab country but that actually was the food menu. And we noticed in samarkand that the non-veg has a good spred compared to vegetarian items. And the other thing in samarkand is the cost is really high, as we noticed.

The food is really good in samarkand. I like the chandni kababs, they were just awesome and melt in my mouth, Which is really best for starters in my point of view. My friends said Barra kebab and sabuta chooza were also very good. And for the main course, go in samarkand for the best biryani ever. I really love biryani in samarkand everytime i go. And i love the mutton rogan josh and some other curries like macchi ka salam, chiken rejala are really awesome in samarkand. And in dessert i just love the `phirni` and some other special sweet dish too.

Over all, samarkand is the best place to go for biryanis and who loves north west frontier cousin. I would recommend this place for special treats as it could be bit expensive for the normal time. Everything is lovely except the BILL......:))  ”

The name suggested by my friends were many but we narrowed it to Samarkand, Gem Plaza, Infantry Road.

To tell you about Samarkand it is a BJN group initiative in Bangalore who serves food coming from Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Samarkand etc. Samarkand Bangalore's menu has a details of the dishes but also history about the rulers coming from all these places. Some of the dishes seved are naan Baluchistan, Peshwari Chicken and Lucknowi Galawati Kabab.

The interiors at Samarkand were extremely beautiful they incorporate a unique combination of subtle elegance and sumptuous luxury deeply influenced by the northwest frontier provinces. Samarkand offers a wide variety of rare Afghani and Peshawari delicacies, further complemented by exotic tandoors, kebabs and other cuisines.

Through Hungyzone we booked the table for 10 people. The booking got confirmed in just 10 minutes. So we were happy and started making plans for the day along with my friends. I had already told her friends about the surprise party at Samarkand restaurant, the timings were already specified to them.

The menu for the party was decided by my friends and her friends after taking a long time, keeping everyone’s likes and dislikes in mind. Since the gathering was small, we managed to that at Samarkand, Infantry Road. I enquired about the bookings, and the staff told that any time they can accommodate close to 140 people.

The menu which we selected for the party was as follows. Please keep in mind that many minds were running simultaneously for that.

I bought one champagne for her, and ask her to open it. She was very happy. We started with a cheers for us and our life for many years to come.

Then came the Cocktail Iran-e-Kulbadan for all of us and angoori Nasha, which was actually different and good at Samarkand.

The starters which we ordered were Tandoori Chooza Sabut, which was perfectly marinated and roasted and is simply awesome to taste and Lucknowi Galawati Kebab and paneer tikka.(for the veggies). The combination was just awesome. The lightings inside the Samarkand restaurant was brilliant and the management played a lovely music when we made our first cheers.

For the main course we ordered for nalli ki gosht (tender juicy lamb), Panner Tikka, Garlic Nans and Kulchas , chicken chadni, lamb chops, mahi mahi, kesar rice and biryani. We were like so full. Every dish was awesome to taste.

Lastly came the desserts in which we ordered bakhlava and khubani ka meetha. we really enjoyed that night. And since then, two times we have already visited Samarkand, gem plaza, Infantry Road. Its worth giving a shot.  ”

Im lucky that I had a table booked here else this was going to be a shere embarrassment for us and nothing short of that coz there was quite a long waiting que. I dont think eastern part of bangalore has another restaurant of this kind, and being Infantary road it makes things quite convenient. Food was very nice here and we really enjoyed ourselves very moment of it. Only thing was that by end of our eating the table was wrapped up too soon as if to say bbye. Overall we really enjoyed our evening at Samarkhand. And look forwad to going there soon. ”

Though a bit overpriced this is a must visit for a special occassion.

We always love to go here with our office colleagues. ”
dileep wrote “ Good food and service. But not on weekends. People rush in from everywhere as if this is the only place to eat in the city center. Better to book a table and head to sahib sind sultan@forum, run by the same group i think, where you get the same taste and a quiet atmosphere. ”

dileep wrote “ May be one of the best place to get tasty food in Bangalore. All non veg dishes are excellent and love to start with tomato Shorba.Eventhough its famous for its non veg dishes , the best dish available there is Dal Afghani.. Try it out :) ”
saf wrote “ Easily one of the best places to eat in Bangalore. Any person liking tandoori and Afghani cuisine will love to visit it multiple times. The ambience is very good, the environment and interiors resemble Afghan caves.
In the starters section Chandni kabab or mutton paya are really good.Bada kabab is not that good there......For the main course Naan/tondoori roti with varieties of chicken/mutton curry is available and all of them are yummy.Mutton Biryani is a must there but it is very spicy and one pot of biryani can easily serve 3 people.
A meal for 2 will usually cost around 800-1000 but it is worth every penny spent.   ”
